Age, decreasing hormone levels, and previous childbirth may result in many changes in a woman’s intimate genital area – including loss of volume, decreased sensation, decreased sexual satisfaction, urinary stress incontinence, and darkening of the surrounding external skin. More and more women are looking at non-invasive ways to rejuvenate and restore the area without resorting to surgery.
CORE INTIMA Laser
What is it?
The CORE INTIMA laser is a carbon dioxide laser specifically designed to treat and rejuvenate the internal vaginal canal and the external vaginal skin. In the internal canal, it works by making tiny injuries in the mucosal layer (much like FRAXEL laser) which heal within a few days with the formation of a thicker, healthier mucosal layer. Externally, the laser helps to remove hyperpigmented (darker) skin.
What conditions can be treated?
Increasing age, decreasing hormone levels, and previous childbirth affect a women’s vaginal canal significantly. In young women, this lining is thick, moist and healthy and able to produce secretions which lubricate the canal and maintain the correct pH. With age, thinning of the vaginal epithelial lining leads to vaginal dryness, discomfort during intercourse, recurrent infections such as Candida (thrush), and laxity, resulting in decreased sensation during intercourse and urinary stress incontinence.

Many women are embarrassed to talk about these changes, but in reality, almost every woman experiences them to some degree. Up to 86% of women develop stress incontinence (involuntary leakage of urine with increased abdominal pressure such as during coughing, sneezing, laughing, or running) eventually.
The CORE INTIMA laser is a non-invasive procedure which helps to treat many of these symptoms without the need for hormone replacement therapy or an operation.
Who is a good candidate for treatment?
Any woman who is suffering from any of the above conditions is a good candidate for treatment. Most patients with mild to moderate stress incontinence will improve with treatment. It is not indicated for severe stress incontinence . Many women also report increased satisfaction during intercourse after having a laser treatment. Before treatment, a normal PAP smear result is needed, and certain conditions and illnesses need to be excluded before any treatment is carried out. An examination of the area will be done prior to your first treatment to ensure that there are no contra-indications to having the procedure.
What does a treatment entail?
You will be covered with clean drapes and the area cleaned with a mild antiseptic solution. A probe is then inserted until it touches your cervix. A few laser shots are given and the probe is then turned systematically in a circle to enable the entire circumference of the vaginal canal to be treated. The probe is then withdrawn by a centimeter at a time and the process repeated until the length of the vaginal canal has been treated. The entire process takes less than half an hour and is almost completely painless.
If you are also having the external skin treated for hyperpigmentation, you will need to have shaved the area the day before treatment. A laser is passed over the external skin, vaporising the outer skin layer. This process may be slightly uncomfortable but only takes a few minutes.
Is there pain and downtime?
Treatment of the internal vaginal canal is almost completely painless. We advise you to refrain from intercourse for a few days and you may experience a pinkish discharge. Treatment of the external skin may cause mild discomfort and special aftercare instructions, including topical creams will be recommended to aid in the healing and lightening process. Studies have shown the CORE INTIMA treatment to be completely safe.
When can I expect to see results?
A course of three treatments is recommended for best results, but many patients will feel an improvement in symptoms within a few weeks of their first treatment. A maintenance treatment once a year is recommended.

Fillers
What conditions can be treated with fillers?
Loss of volume in the labia majora can be treated with soft tissue fillers. This area tends to lose fullness as a woman ages, causing them to retract and expose more of the internal tissue. Injecting a soft tissue filler into the labia majora increases their fullness and creates a more youthful appearance. This procedure is very easily done and is almost completely painless.
Who is a good candidate for treatment?
Any woman who is conscious of a loss of volume in this area and would like it corrected, is a good candidate for this treatment. An examination of the area to exclude any contra-indications to filler treatment will be done prior to treatments.

What does a treatment entail?
The area to be treated will be cleaned with a mild antiseptic solution. The filler is injected using a cannula which allows us to fill the entire area without numerous needle pricks.
Is there pain and downtime?
This procedure is almost completely painless due to the use of ice to numb the area beforehand, and there is no pain or discomfort afterwards.
When can I expect to see results?
Results are immediate and improve for approximately 10 days afterwards as the filler gradually draws in water.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
What conditions can be treated with PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is plasma derived from your own blood that is rich in growth factors and stem cells. Injecting PRP into any tissue helps to rejuvenate it by stimulating various cellular pathways, one of which is for new collagen formation.
Loss of volume in the labia majora can be treated with PRP injections.
PRP can be injected into the area around the clitoris which helps to rejuvenate it so that more pleasure is experienced during sexual intercourse. This procedure is often known as “The V Shot”.
PRP also helps to improve urinary stress incontinence. Injecting PRP into tissue around the urethra helps rejuvenate that tissue so that there is more support for the urethra. This leads to an improvement in urinary stress incontinence.

Who is a good candidate for treatment?
Any woman who is conscious of a loss of volume in the labia majora or has experienced decreased sensation during intercourse is a good candidate for this treatment. An examination of the area to exclude any contra-indications to PRP injections will be done prior to treatments.
What does a treatment entail?
A small tube of blood will be drawn from your arm and centrifused down to obtain the platelet-rich plasma. The area to be treated will be cleaned with a mild antiseptic solution. Small injections of PRP are placed into the areas to be treated.
Is there pain and downtime?
This procedure is almost completely painless due to the use of ice to numb the area beforehand. Mild swelling and a sensation of warmth may be felt for a few hours afterwards.
When can I expect to see results?
Increased sensation is usually evident within a week of treatment. An increase in volume of the labia majora takes longer and usually three treatments at monthly intervals are recommended.

Carboxy Therapy
What conditions can be treated with Carboxy Therapy?
Carboxy therapy is the infusion of carbon dioxide gas into an area. Carbon dioxide is a safe and inert gas which displaces oxygen from the treatment area. The body recognises an oxygen deficit in this localised area and responds by increasing blood flow, containing oxygen and nutrients, to the area. This helps to rejuvenate a treatment area.
Carboxy therapy can be used throughout the genital area to help increase blood flow and stimulate long term rejuvenation.

Who is a good candidate for treatment?
Any woman who is conscious of aging and decreased sensation in the genital area is a good candidate for carboxy therapy. An examination of the area to exclude any contra-indications to carboxy therapy will be done prior to treatments.
What does a treatment entail?
The area to be treated will be cleaned with a mild antiseptic solution. The carbon dioxide gas enters tissue through a tube that is connected to a tiny needle. Multiple small needle pricks are made to allow entry of the carbon dioxide gas into the tissue.
Is there pain and downtime?
Small needle pricks are uncomfortable. A topical anaesthetic can be applied to the area before treatment if desired. A mild burning sensation and feeling of mild increased pressure will be experienced as the gas enters tissue. This dissipates almost immediately. Small needle-prick bruises may occur which disappear in a few days. There is no downtime after a treatment.
When can I expect to see results?
Results take time to become evident. A course of 6 treatments at two weekly intervals is recommended.
