Hair Loss Treatments
What is it?
Hair loss, in both men and women, can be unbelievably distressing. Losing one’s hair often makes people feel less attractive and makes them appear older. There are many different causes for hair loss, but often a causative agent can’t be determined. In men, a genetic link is very common. In women, low iron levels, thyroid hormone deficiency, and menopause (or declining hormone levels) are often important triggers, as well as a genetic link.
In both men and women, the most common cause of hair loss is chronic low-grade stress or an acutely stressful event. Hair loss treatments are usually more successful if the hair loss is recent and there are still functioning but dormant hair follicles that can be stimulated.

An easy DNA test can help determine which genes you have that may contribute to the problem and what active ingredients are more likely to be effective based on these results. We are able to order tailor-made hair products and supplements for you for home use.
In-clinic treatments include hair filler and mesotherapy – minute injections of vitamins, minerals, and slow-release peptides which help improve the condition of your scalp and increase blood flow. Further treatments to stimulate dormant hair follicles include PRP (platelet rich plasma) and specialised hair growth factors.
Restoring hair loss entails stimulating dormant hair follicles to become active again. Unfortunately, dead hair follicles can’t be re-activated so it is advisable to treat hair loss as early as possible. Many of our patients begin hair treatments in their twenties.
What does the treatment entail?
Multiple small injections of hair filler, mesotherapy serums, PRP, or growth factors are injected or needled into the scalp using minute needles. A topical anaesthetic or anaesthetic injections may be given prior to treatment, but is not usually needed. There is very little bleeding and the patient is advised not to wash their hair until the next day.
Is there pain and downtime?
Hair filler injections and growth factor injections are easily tolerated and usually no anaesthetic is required. PRP injections are a little more painful and an anaesthetic will be used if necessary. Tiny bleeding spots may occur which may leave the odd tiny bruise, but this is usually not noticeable. There is no downtime.
What do I need to do afterwards?
Use of a treatment shampoo, serum, and oral supplements are recommended to achieve maximum results. A simple swab of your inside cheek may be sent for DNA analysis so that tailor-made products can be ordered for you on a monthly basis.
When can I expect to see results?
Results usually take a few months to become evident.
How many treatments do I need and how often?
There are a number of different treatment regimes available. Your doctor will discuss these with you and advise on the one that is most suitable for you. Maintenance treatments at yearly intervals is recommended.
